Horses and Men

They came from the plains

with eyes full of terror and pride

with breaths that made the earth tremble.

No one had yet tamed them

no bridle had ever touched their necks.

In their gaze there was something human

the same madness that refuses to yield

the same thirst for freedom

that makes horse and man one.
